Our Responsibility as Cougs
Dear WSU Community,
Homecoming is a time to celebrate what makes Washington State University special. Our alumni return to campus, celebrate our traditions and remember the sense of family that is being a part of the Cougar community. Being part of the Cougar family includes looking out for each other and treating each other with respect.
The national headlines on hazing and sexual misconduct on college campuses should lead us all to think about student safety and campus culture. As we think about the past safety issues experienced in our own community here in Pullman, we must continue to be vigilant in holding ourselves and one another accountable.
At WSU, hazing, sexual misconduct and behavior that puts others at risk will not be tolerated. Every student deserves a safe and supportive environment, whether in the classroom, at a campus event or participating in a student organization.
We each have a part in making that possible. Look out for your friends and fellow Cougs. Speak up when something doesn’t seem right. Take concerns seriously and ask for help. We expect everyone at WSU to uphold these standards.
We also want to remind students that WSU has resources available for prevention, reporting concerns and getting support. We ask you to take a moment to learn about campus resources and hazing prevention resources and reach out if you or someone you know needs assistance.
As we gather for Homecoming, we hope you’ll celebrate responsibly, take care of each other and continue to make WSU a community we’re all proud to call our own.
Go Cougs!
