Faculty Athletics Representative

The Office of the President is pleased to announce a search for the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR). The FAR serves as the principal liaison between the institution’s academic enterprise and its athletics program, ensuring that the university’s academic standards, integrity, and student-athlete welfare remain central in all athletic operations.

The FAR serves as the President’s designated faculty representative responsible for ensuring the academic integrity of the athletics program, monitoring student-athlete eligibility and progress-toward-degree, and helping maintain institutional control in matters related to NCAA compliance. The FAR acts as a faculty liaison on issues that affect the academic experience and welfare of student-athletes and provides independent advice to the President on the alignment of athletics practices with university academic standards and NCAA regulations.

Appointment details and terms

  • The FAR reports directly to and, at all times, serves at the discretion of the President.
  • The appointment is a part-time, 12-month position based in Pullman.
  • The release time amount needed to effectively discharge the FAR duties is 25%.
  • The initial appointment term is three years with the possibility of renewal and includes yearly reviews. (January 1, 2026- December 31, 2028)

Qualifications

  • Full time faculty member at Washington State University holding rank.
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic integrity, intercollegiate athletics and the student experience
  • Experience in faculty leadership and committee or administrative experience at the University.
  • Commitment to and ability to speak to the high impact and educational value of a student’s participation in athletics programs, and how the athletics program fits with and advances our institutional mission and goals.
  • Willingness to learn and abide by the NCAA and Pac-12 rules and regulations.
  • Ability to travel to WSU, NCAA, and Pac-12 events and meetings.
  • Ability to make a 3-year commitment.

Interview Timeline

Interviews will be conducted by the search committee no later than December 19th with the finalist speaking with President Cantwell no later than December 23rd. Candidates must be available for interview on this timeline.
