Moving forward with purpose
Dear faculty, staff, and students,
As we begin commencement season across our system, I want to recognize the significance of this moment for those graduating and for Washington State University. Commencement is the most important aspect of being a land-grant university, because it is the clearest reflection of our mission through the achievement of students. For me, that includes honoring the work it takes to reach this point and preparing for the new chapter that follows. In many ways, this is a moment that marks both completion and beginning across the WSU community.
Across our campuses and communities, I’ve seen commitment, follow-through, and a willingness to keep moving forward with purpose through change. Students have stayed the course, faculty have challenged and guided them, and staff have pushed to refine the daily work that keeps this university moving. That effort has shaped this year, strengthened our foundation, and positioned WSU to move into the future with increasing confidence and momentum.
This says something important about WSU. As a community we are staying true to the defining quality of Cougar resilience with a clearer understanding of our mission and the drive to take on the responsibility that comes with it. We are doing the work required not only to prepare for the future, but to help define it. The future for Washington State University is bright because of the seriousness, talent, and determination of the people across this institution.
I want to thank each of you for the role you have played in bringing us here. Students, I wish for strength as you finish the semester and an incredible summer, our graduates a memorable commencement and insightful transition, and our university community a moment to take pride in what this year has made possible.
Carry forward confidence in what you have accomplished, and optimism about what comes next.
Go Cougs!
Sincerely,
BETSY CANTWELL
President, Washington State University
