Presidential Update: Latest Changes — Week of August 18, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

The fall semester is officially underway, and with it comes a flurry of activity from every corner of the university. Across the system, teams are hard at work advancing our mission, supporting our students, and adapting to the needs of our communities. Over the last two weeks, we’ve made several changes to further those efforts:

Last Week

  • Human Resource Services (HRS) announces leadership changes and team realignments
HRS recently announced several organizational moves intended to improve service levels, reduce response times, and ensure consistent, high-quality HR support. The full breadth of changes include promotions, team consolidations, and integration of WSU Vancouver’s HR staff into the system-wide structure.

This Week

  • WSU’s in‑house design services to stop operation this fall
As part of broader budget planning efforts across University Marketing & Communications, the unit will discontinue its central graphic design services on Oct. 31. Design and Printing Services will honor and fulfill any commissioned design projects submitted by Oct. 15.
  • Strategic restructuring at the College of Nursing
In response to reduced federal and state funding, the College of Nursing is implementing a series of strategic changes to improve operational efficiency and enhance collaboration across units. The changes involve redistributing certain functions, refining reporting structures, and encouraging stronger collaboration across teams.

As we move forward into the academic year, I’ve launched a new series of regular forums for directors and above to stay informed and aligned on university priorities. The first of these sessions took place this morning, and I look forward to the continued dialogue and collaboration they will foster.

Thank you for your ongoing dedication to WSU and the communities we serve.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth R. Cantwell
President, Washington State University
