Presidential Update: Latest Changes — Week of September 8

Dear Colleagues,

As we step into a vibrant fall season, I’d like to share several important updates that reflect the evolution across our system.

Last Week

  • 200 students admitted on Homecoming Weekend
Nearly 900 visitors joined us for Future Coug Day on Homecoming Weekend, exploring the Pullman campus, meeting with academic programs, and cheering on Cougar Football. Thanks to a great partnership between Cougar Athletics and WSU Enrollment, more than 200 students were admitted on the spot or shortly after the event. It was our first Future Coug Day since 2016, and the energy showed just how excited students are to become part of the Coug family.

This Week

  • Extending heartfelt gratitude
I want to personally thank Daryll DeWald, chancellor of the Spokane campus and executive vice president, for nearly 15 years of leadership. Daryll announced his retirement following a research leave through the end of the year. He left an indelible mark on our Health Sciences enterprise and the Spokane community. Chris Riley-Tillman, provost and executive vice president, will assume leadership of the Health Sciences colleges, with Daryll’s support during the transition.

Next Week

  • WSU Board of Regents in Spokane for their annual retreat and September meeting
Next week, the Board of Regents will meet for presentations from Board Chair Jenette Ramos, WSU leadership team, and Sally Amoruso of EAB, as we continue shaping the future of Washington State University together.

Thank you for your continued engagement and support. These moments of transition and innovation remind us of the strength and spirit that define WSU. For additional information on how we’re continuing to improve our internal processes, visit our New Chapter website.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Cantwell
President, Washington State University
