Presidential Update: Latest Changes — Week of September 29

Dear Colleagues,

October is off to a challenging start with a federal government shutdown. Washington State University, however, is well prepared to face those challenges.

Congress remains deadlocked over legislation to fund the federal government, and a shutdown has begun. I recognize the uncertainty this creates and am committed to supporting you throughout. The Office of Federal Relations is closely monitoring developments and will provide updates as they become available.

We are tracking as much information as we can at our federal shutdown guidance website. You will receive reminders to go to this website for the most recent information.

If you have specific questions, please direct them to the Office of Research at orso@wsu.edu, Sponsored Program Services at sps@wsu.edu, or the Office of Federal Relations at jacob.dowd@wsu.edu.

In effect this week:

  • Faculty and staff raises: Eligible faculty, administrative professionals, and academic student employees across the Washington State University system saw increases to their salary effective Oct. 1. Civil service employees at WSU received a 3% salary increase earlier this summer. More information on faculty and staff raises can be found on the WSU Insider website.

Please visit the New Chapter website for information on other institutional changes.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Cantwell
President, Washington State University
