Student Team Earns CleanTech Big Picture Prize at UW Business Competition

  • Project: Process to transform lignin into environment-friendly jet fuel
  • Technology developed by professor Bin Yang’s lab in Bioproducts, Sciences and Engineering Lab
  • Team: Libing Zhang, recent doctoral alumna, and Manuel Seubert and Taylor Pate, MBA students

Partnership with Thai, Canadian Universities

  • Language and cultural exchange program with Vanwest College from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Mahasarakham University from Talat, Thailand
  • Students will gain language exploration, competency experiences, cultural components, networking

Team Wins Top Honors at World Conference for Distilled Spirits Analysis

  • Poster presented at Worldwide Distilled Spirits Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, in July
  • Researchers applied technique used to evaluate characteristics of wine to distilled spirits
  • WSU team: wine science postdoctoral researcher Caroline Merrell and professors Jim Harbertson and Tom Collins
  • Research showed importance of barrel selection in making distilled spirits

  • Ribbon-cutting and open house August 15; first classes August 21
  • Tangible evidence of WSU’s commitment to Everett and the North Puget Sound region
  • Campus focus: Delivery of high-demand degrees in STEM fields and graduating students job-ready in fields which the North Puget Sound area needs for economic growth

Ray Stephanson Leadership Scholarship

  • Boeing creating WSU Everett’s first endowed scholarship in the name of Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson
  • Mayor’s leadership, partnership, hard work paved the way for WSU Everett
  • Scholarship will be awarded each year to a WSU Everett student in a technical field who has demonstrated leadership skills

Impact of Medical Students on Everett Campus and Community

  • Will change face of health care in Washington
  • 15 medical students will complete clinical training locally with partners like Providence Regional Medical Center and The Everett Clinic in their third- and fourth-year studies
  • The Everett-based students just completed first of six, one-week clinical intersessions in Everett community
