In July 2013, I announced the restructuring of WSU’s commercialization activities. Since that time, efforts to streamline the development and commercialization of WSU innovations and inventions have evolved considerably. Specifically, we have enhanced our capacity to bring research discoveries to the public where they can make the most impact through strengthened business, industry, and investor partnerships.

Most notably, we have established a strategic partnership with Accelerator Corporation, a health technologies investment and management firm based in Seattle. Accelerator’s exceptional mentoring, support, and evaluation of early-stage biotechnology and medical research opportunities will further advance the translation of WSU research discoveries into start-up companies. In turn, the expertise of WSU’s faculty and state-of-the art technological support facilities will be available to Accelerator’s portfolio of companies to enhance scientific collaborations across the region.

This venture promises to move the needle even further on the university’s overarching commitment to economic development and my personal commitment to increase the impact of our commercialization efforts. Representatives from Accelerator Corporation will visit the WSU Pullman and Spokane campuses on Nov. 17 and 18. I encourage members of the campus community to attend a presentation to learn more about this strategic partnership.

They will be available on at WSU Spokane from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 17, in Room 341 of the Spokane Academic Center. On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Accelerator representatives will be available from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., in Room 305 of the Veterinary Biomedical Research Building.
