University Advisory Committee on Computing and Telecommunications

 

Functions:

  1. Develop and recommend to the President  strategic plans for computing and telecommunications at Washington State University.

  2. Initiate studies, examine and evaluate programs, and make proposals or policy recommendations to the President related to academic and administrative computing and the University network for electronic transmission of voice, video and data.

  3. Act to assure adequate computing and telecommunications support for the University's academic mission and administrative functions.

  4. Initiate studies, examine and evaluate programs, and make proposals or program recommendations to the Vice President for Information Services as appropriate.

  5. Appoint standing and ad hoc sub-committees for Computing and Telecommunications. Receive reports and recommendations from the sub-committees and other college/unit computing and telecommunication committees. The members of the standing and ad hoc sub-committees will be drawn from the entire WSU community: faculty, staff and students. The chairs of the standing and ad hoc sub-committees shall be members of the committee.

  6. An Executive Committee shall develop the agenda and appoint the chairs of the standing sub-committees. It shall be composed of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the Director of Information Technology, the Associate Vice President for Educational Telecommunications and Technology, and five members of the committee elected by the committee. The election will be held at the end of each academic year for service during the next academic year.

Composition and Tenure:

  1. Fourteen faculty members. One each from Agricultural,Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, Communications, Engineering and Architecture, Liberal Arts, Sciences, Business, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, WSU Spokane, WSU Tri-Cities, WSU Vancouver, Extended University Affairs and Library, nominated by the dean/director and appointed by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, and one Senator of the Faculty Senate, with three-year terms.

  2. One member from an academic or research center appointed by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, with a three-year term.

  3. Nine representatives of central administrative offices and major administrative systems, appointed by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, with three-year terms.

  4. Three representatives of administrative computing in academic areas, appointed by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, with three-year terms.

  5. One staff representative appointed by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, with a three-year term.

  6. One graduate and one undergraduate student, nominated by GPSA and ASWSU and appointed by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, with one-year terms.

  7. Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Director of Information Technology and Associate Vice President for Educational Telecommunications and Technology.

  8. The three-year terms will be staggered so that one-third expire each year. Members may be reappointed.
